Advertising on Fizz: FAQ

Fizz helps brands and agencies reach verified college students through native digital formats and on-campus activations. These answers cover formats, targeting, measurement, brand safety, creative, and campaign planning.

The basics

  • Fizz is a social platform for verified college students, live on 750+ U.S. campuses. Every account is tied to a .edu email or proof of enrollment, so the audience is students rather than an age bracket. Students open the app around 5.5 times a day.

  • Not directly, and that is the point. Fizz communities are closed. Access requires a valid .edu email or proof of enrollment, which is the same verification that makes the audience worth buying in the first place. If anyone could browse in, the audience would not be what we are selling.

So we bring it to you instead. Get in touch and we will walk you through live communities, real placements, and campaign examples in a demo.

  • Brands across food and delivery, apparel, fintech, apps and AI tools, entertainment, and public health. Past campaigns include Perplexity, Sony Pictures, Kalshi, Truth Initiative, theCut, and Timberland.

  • Yes. Fizz works with agencies.

Formats

  • All digital ad formats are native and intended to be additive to the user experience. Front Door Takeovers, Always-On In-Feed, Fizz UGC, Native Polls, and Push Notifications can be combined to create an effective Fizz strategy. Campus Swarms and Experiences bridge online recruitment and announcements to IRL activations.

  • A pinned native post and the first placement students see when they open the app. One brand owns that position for the duration, typically 24 hours. It is the highest-impact format we run.

  • A native post that runs seamlessly within the feed and can run as an always-on element throughout the duration of a campaign.

  • A native post that appears from a student account, promoted by the advertiser. It is the most authentic and native way to show up in a Fizz community feed.

  • A sponsored branded poll that appears in the feed and invites a direct response. Half of all Fizz users already vote in polls, so a branded poll reads as a normal part of the feed rather than a novelty. Polls double as research: they return real answers at a volume that survey panels struggle to match. There is also the option to include a CTA on the results page.

  • A survey that students can complete directly within the Fizz feed. It supports single- and multi-select, Likert scale, open-ended responses, video and audio uploads, and branching logic. It is best for research studies, product and message testing, and ambassador or study recruitment.

  • A student-led physical activation on campus, paired with the media that fills it. A Front Door Takeover and push notification drive attendance, student ambassadors run the event, and a dedicated Fizz coordinator handles on-site management and attendee data capture.

  • We recruit verified campus creators to produce brand video, managed end to end from creator selection through content approval. The output can run inside Fizz communities or on TikTok and Instagram.

Every creator comes from our own verified user base. Each one is an enrolled student at a real campus, confirmed by .edu email, and already an active member of the community the content is about. Most UGC programs recruit from open creator marketplaces, where you are often buying someone who reads as a college student rather than someone who is one, and where nobody has verified the campus they claim. Because 35% of Fizz users create content against roughly 1% on mainstream social, the pool is deep enough to select for fit rather than availability.

Targeting and verification

  • Every account requires a valid .edu email address or proof of enrollment. This is the difference between a student audience and an 18-to-24 age bracket, which is what broad social platforms actually sell.

  • Yes. Community-level targeting lets you buy a single school.

  • Geography (state or DMA), community (school), and graduation year.

  • Yes. Frequency capping is supported at both campaign and placement level.

Measurement

  • Impressions, clicks, and CTR come as standard. Video reporting includes plays, completion rate, and play time.

  • Yes, covering ad recall, brand awareness, positive perception, consideration, purchase intent, and competitive share.

Brand safety

  • We have strict community guidelines enforced through AI moderation tools that prevent content violating our brand safety topics from publishing publicly on Fizz. We can also support a keyword exclusion list to keep additional keywords from appearing near your ads.

  • Topic exclusion and keyword exclusion at campaign level, plus campus-level control over where your campaign runs.

  • Fewer than on broad social. We run a deliberately small, vetted set of advertisers, and 53% of students told us “too many ads” is a top reason a brand feels cringe. Ad load is a creative variable, not just an inventory one. A Front Door Takeover gives you sole ownership of the top-of-feed position for its duration. All other paid placements in the feed are separated by at least 10 posts.

Creative

  • Yes, and it is included in every campaign. We adapt brand messaging into Gen Z-native creative and flag when a line will not land. Our survey found 70% of students say the fastest way for a brand to lose them is trying too hard to sound like them, so this is the most common failure point we help brands avoid.

  • Native posts and Native Polls take five business days. UGC takes three to four weeks, covering creator recruitment, onboarding, and production.

  • Yes. Fizz supports and encourages testing multiple creative versions.

Planning and booking

  • For large campaigns, reserve inventory months ahead of your desired dates so you can secure inventory. Front Door Takeovers are exclusive by day, so peak dates around term start go early. Campaigns should allow one week for creative review and approval, and an extra two weeks if ambassadors or creator recruitment is involved.

  • Rates are subject to change based on the time of year and availability. For our current rate card, please get in touch with our partnerships team.
