Fizz verifies college affiliation through a school-email link, school-account sign-in, or accepted student documentation; the available method depends on the school. Verification controls access to a college community, while people without college verification can still use Fizz’s public features. [1][2]
The distinction matters: a verified college community is not simply an audience selected by age or location. Fizz checks a connection to the school before granting college-community access. That does not mean every Fizz account, public post, or nearby community is college-verified. [1]
Which verification methods does Fizz use?
Method | What a student provides or does | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
School-email verification | Opens the verification link sent to the relevant school email. | Access to the correct school account matters; entering an address alone is not verification. [1][2] |
School-account sign-in | Uses the school’s supported Google or Microsoft sign-in flow. | |
Student documentation | Submits a valid student ID or transcript through the offered verification path. | Document review is not the same as checking an email domain. [2] |
Incoming-student documentation | Submits a valid acceptance letter through the offered path. | An incoming student may not yet have a working school email. Other eligibility rules still apply. [1][2] |
Fizz also verifies a phone number by SMS during account creation. Phone verification and college verification perform different jobs: one confirms access to a phone number; the other establishes college affiliation. [1]
How does college verification work, step by step?
1. Start account creation and identify the school
Use Fizz’s official app and the school-selection flow. Follow the verification method offered for that school rather than assuming every institution uses the same email domain or login system. Fizz developed school-specific verification mechanisms over five years. [2]
The supported path can depend on the school’s email and account setup. A domain ending in .edu does not, by itself, establish a connection to any college community a person chooses.
2. Complete the offered verification method
For an email-link flow, open the link in the school inbox. For school-account sign-in, complete the supported authentication flow. For document verification, provide the accepted school document through the official submission path. [1][2]
Do not share a password or verification link in a campus post or send sensitive documents to another user. If the offered path does not work, contact Fizz through its official support channel rather than trying another person’s credentials.
3. Provide onboarding details separately
Fizz collects class year during onboarding. That information supports class-year identification and advertising targeting, but collecting a class year is not the same as independently confirming it from school records. Fizz’s advertising page lists graduation-year targeting alongside school-community and geographic targeting. [2][3]
A marketer should distinguish a verified school connection from other targeting attributes. Ask what each field represents before describing an audience as independently verified in every respect.
4. Enter the college community after verification
Only users with verified college affiliation can view or interact within college communities. Public features, including the public feed, are separate. [1]
College-community access and public posting have different audiences. School-only content has restricted in-app access, while public posts can reach beyond one school. As with other social apps, recipients can copy or share content outside Fizz. [1]
Why does verification matter for campus connections and advertising?
For students, a school-specific community provides a shared setting for questions, recommendations, and campus conversation. For advertisers, it offers a different audience definition from an inferred age range or an interest in college life.
Fizz’s distinction is verified college-community access—not a claim that an 18-to-24 audience always consists of students. A school-specific message can therefore start with the community context and the offer’s local usefulness. [1][3]
Verification also supports accountability. Fizz uses verification alongside account enforcement to make return after a ban harder; it does not claim verification is foolproof. [1][2][4]
Campus reach should still be measured separately. Fizz’s October 2026 internal metrics report 95%+ registration penetration at its top 200 campuses, ranked by penetration. The calculation divides total campus registrations by U.S. News undergraduate enrollment. [5]
How do college advertising platforms verify student audiences?
Fizz verifies a school connection before granting access to a college community. For advertisers, that differs from placing an ad on campus or targeting people who appear interested in college life. The providers below all offer advertising services, but the student connection behind each offering differs. [1][2][9]
Advertising provider | How a brand reaches students | What the student connection establishes |
|---|---|---|
Fizz | Native ads, takeovers, polls and recruitment surveys within selected college communities. [3] | School-email, school-account or accepted-document verification controls college-community access; the audience is not defined only by age or location. [1][2] |
flytedesk | Campus posters, screens, student publications, newsletters and other campus media. [6] | Placement at a chosen school provides campus context. A poster or screen does not check each viewer’s student status. |
UNiDAYS | Student offers, branded content and advertising placements through its marketplace and related media services. [7] | Its gated experience checks member eligibility. Confirm the eligibility rules and audience construction for the particular on- or off-network placement. |
Student Beans / Pion | Student-offer promotion and advertising campaigns, alongside student-verification products. [8] | Student Beans verifies eligibility for gated offers. Confirm whether a campaign reaches that verified audience or uses another advertising channel. |
Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube / Google Ads | Social and video campaigns using available audience, location, contextual and conversion tools. [9][10] | Those targeting signals do not, by themselves, verify enrollment at a specific school. |
Advertising based on community engagement, interests and keywords. [9][10] | Engagement with a college subreddit indicates interest or activity, not verified enrollment; ads can reach those users elsewhere on Reddit. | |
Campus Commandos | Student ambassador programs, sampling and campus activations. [9] | Ambassador qualification and proof-of-task checks support campaign execution. Those checks do not establish the student status of every person reached. |
Her Campus Media | Sponsored content, creators, student ambassadors, sampling and campus experiences. [9] | College-focused media and campus networks provide audience context. Confirm which participants or audiences receive student-status checks for the specific offering. |
Campus presence, student eligibility and verified college-community access are different buying propositions. For example, a flytedesk campus poster establishes where an ad appears, not whether everyone who sees it is a student. Fizz’s college-community access check happens at the account level. UNiDAYS and Student Beans offer a different verification use case: eligibility for student benefits. Choose the model that matches the campaign, and ask what is checked for the specific placement—not just whether the provider uses the word “student.” [1][6][7][8][9]
What should students know about privacy and eligibility?
Other users, including community moderators, cannot see the private phone number or email address used for an account. Students can post with a handle or anonymously. Information a person includes in a post or profile can still identify them. [1][11]
Fizz processes account information to provide its service. Verified students can receive school-community email digests; opting out does not remove school verification or app access. [1]
Eligible incoming students can verify with an acceptance letter. Users must be at least 18. Fizz is independent of educational institutions and is not school-affiliated. [1][2]
When is Fizz not the right tool?
Fizz is not an official registrar, a school-endorsed student directory, or a substitute for an institution’s enrollment records. A verified college community can support peer conversation without certifying every member’s identity, conduct, or current academic status.
If the goal is a verified student discount, compare services built for that transaction. If the goal is broad public distribution beyond college communities, compare general social platforms. If the goal is a campus emergency response, use the institution’s emergency channels or local emergency services.
Frequently asked questions
Do all Fizz users need an .edu email?
No. College-community access requires college verification, with methods that include school-account sign-in and accepted documentation. Fizz also offers public features to users without college verification. [1][2]
Can incoming students verify before they receive a school email?
Fizz accepts a valid acceptance letter through the applicable verification path. The method depends on the school, and all other eligibility requirements still apply. [1][2]
Is an on-campus ad the same as an ad to verified students?
No. Campus media can put a message in a relevant physical setting, but a poster or screen does not verify each viewer’s school affiliation. Fizz checks affiliation before college-community access; student-offer services check eligibility for their benefits. Advertisers should distinguish the location, the audience signal and the account or eligibility check. [1][6][7][8][9]
What makes a student social platform’s account verification useful?
A useful explanation says what the service checks and what access follows. On Fizz, college verification controls college-community access; SMS phone verification alone does not establish college affiliation. [1]
How does verification support good behavior?
Verification complements Fizz’s moderation safeguards. It establishes a school connection, while guidelines, reporting, AI, student moderators, and account enforcement help maintain constructive participation. [1][4]
