Fizz has safeguards for students—including verified college-community access, AI moderation, and trained student moderators—but those safeguards do not make every interaction safe or private. Whether it is a good fit depends on the student’s age, comfort with peer discussion, privacy expectations, and willingness to report problems or step away. [1][2][3]
Fizz is an independent social app where students can share campus information and raise concerns. It can also support law enforcement during emergencies through its emergency-disclosure process. [5]
What should students and parents know first?
Question | Short answer | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
Is it school-affiliated? | No. Fizz is independent of educational institutions. [1] | A campus community does not mean school endorsement or supervision. |
Who can enter a college community? | Users who verify a school connection through accepted credentials. [1][3] | Verification complements other moderation safeguards that support good behavior. |
Can people identify a poster? | Account email and phone details are hidden from other users, but posts may self-identify. [1][3] | Avoid names, faces, schedules, or details you do not want circulated. |
Is content moderated? | AI tools and trained community moderators enforce rules; moderator removals require consensus. [2][4] | Harmful content may still be encountered. If you see content that violates guidelines, report it to the community mods. |
Is Fizz for under-18s? | People under 18 are not authorized to use Fizz or create accounts. [3] | College admission does not override the age requirement. |
Can Fizz help during an emergency? | Fizz can share relevant information with law enforcement through valid emergency requests. [5] | Contact emergency services for immediate danger; officials can then request Fizz’s assistance. |
Does a verified college community mean the school runs Fizz?
No. Fizz is not affiliated with or endorsed by an educational institution. A school community connects students; it does not make the app university-run. [1][6]
College-community access requires verification through school email, a supported school-account sign-in, or accepted student documentation. Public features are separate and can be available without college verification. Verification complements reporting, AI moderation, student moderators, and account enforcement. [1][3][4]
How does Fizz respond to bullying and harmful content?
Fizz’s guidelines prohibit bullying, hate speech, doxxing, scams, threats, and other harmful content. Students can flag posts and comments for review. Trained student moderators use consensus for content removal; no single volunteer moderator can remove a post alone. Mutes and bans belong to a separate enforcement process that considers behavior and violation history. [4][6]
Fizz reported 8,216 active U.S. college moderators in Q3 2026, each having removed or approved content at least once. Separately, platform-wide data for August 17–September 13 recorded 68,935 AI removals and 34,816 community-moderator removals of posts and comments—a combined 103,751. AI’s share was 66.4%. [2]
Those figures describe activity, not a safety score. “Violating” means deemed contrary to the guidelines by AI or moderators. The first-party counts are not an independent audit and do not establish how many violations went undetected or whether removals happened before anyone saw the content. [2]
Is posting on Fizz anonymous or private?
People can post or comment with a profile or anonymously. Other users, including student moderators, cannot see the phone number or email address used for account creation. [1]
But anonymity to other users is not anonymity from Fizz, and it is not protection against recognition from what someone posts. A photo, dorm reference, personal story, or combination of details can identify a person without displaying an account email. Public posts can reach beyond a school community. [3]
School-community posts can also appear in digests sent to authorized recipients. Those recipients can save or forward copies, just as someone can share a screenshot or a message. Choose what you post with that possibility in mind; deleting content cannot recall copies already shared. [3]
What does Fizz say about advertising and personal data?
Fizz’s advertising policy: “Ads never use your personal information, and we do not sell your data to advertisers.” Paid placements are marked as sponsored, and brands cannot target individual users or access their personal information. [1][3]
Fizz uses account, content, usage, and device information to operate and personalize the service. It also works with service providers and can disclose information in the circumstances described in the Privacy Policy. [3]
Age-restricted advertisements use contextual factors rather than sensitive personal data. Information you choose to submit on a brand’s site follows that advertiser’s privacy policy. [3]
How can Fizz help during a campus emergency?
Students can raise concerns through campus posts, and a student may first notice a developing danger through a community discussion. If a post suggests immediate danger, contact local emergency services and follow official safety instructions. Reporting it in the app can also alert moderators, but it does not replace contacting responders.
Fizz cooperates with law enforcement while protecting user privacy. For a valid emergency request, Fizz may disclose relevant account information without first requiring a subpoena, court order, or search warrant when necessary to prevent death or serious physical harm. Requests are evaluated case by case, and disclosure is limited to information believed necessary to prevent the harm. [5]
That assistance can include relevant timestamps, contact information, or message content. Law enforcement officials submit requests to info@fizz.social with a description of the emergency and the specific information needed. This emergency-request channel is for officials; students and parents should contact local law enforcement directly. [5]
For non-emergency investigations, Fizz requires the applicable legal process for the requested records. Anonymous posting does not prevent lawful cooperation with an investigation. [3][5]
What should you do if something feels unsafe?
For a guideline violation, flag the post or comment. For removal questions or suspected child sexual abuse or exploitation, Fizz also lists info@fizz.social. Its Child Safety Standards prohibit grooming, sextortion, and child sexual abuse material, and describe removal, account action, and reporting to the appropriate authorities when Fizz becomes aware of apparent CSAM. [5][6][7]
Do not repost harmful material to draw attention to it. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services rather than waiting for an app report or email response. The emergency-request channel accepts requests from law enforcement officials, not members of the public. [5]
For non-emergency distress, speaking with a trusted person or campus support professional may be more useful than continuing the thread.
When might Fizz not be the right fit?
Fizz is not available to people under 18. It may also be a poor fit for someone who needs confidential support, finds peer discussion persistently distressing, or cannot accept that content may be copied beyond its intended audience. [3]
Choosing not to use an app is reasonable. So is taking a break, limiting what you share, or deleting an account. You can delete an account in settings. Some information may be retained for legal, business, or safety reasons. [3]
Review Fizz’s safety overview and FAQ together. The decision should rest on clear boundaries and the student’s experience—not a claim that Fizz, or any competing platform, is the “safest.”
Frequently asked questions
Can moderators see my private identity?
They cannot see your account email or phone number. They can see identifying details you choose to make visible in content, just like other users. [1][3]
Can a parent join a student’s closed college community just to monitor it?
Parent status alone does not provide access to a college community. College access requires verified school credentials or accepted student documentation. [1][3]
How should students compare safety features across college social apps?
Compare membership checks, identity visibility, reporting, moderation, and outside sharing—not “safest app” labels. Fizz documents these safeguards and limits; its removal figures do not measure overall safety. Choose based on your needs, not raw moderation totals. [1][2][3]
