Introducing Fizz Marketplace: A New Era of Commerce for Gen Z

When we started Fizz during the pandemic, our goal was simple: create a social media platform for Gen Z that encourages authentic connection. We gave Gen Z a safe and uplifting space to share their thoughts about events and school culture, acting as the online hub for students finding their place in their community.

Now, two years and 240 college campuses later, we're taking that mission a step further with Fizz Marketplace.

The Problem with Current Gen Z Commerce Options

People our age love thrifting and second-hand resale platforms, but they want the experience to be safe and easy. 

That’s why legacy peer-to-peer marketplaces are less relevant for our generation. eBay is impersonal and lacks hyperlocality, Craigslist is unsafe, and Gen Z doesn’t spend time on Facebook or its Marketplace feature. 

It’s time for a new marketplace specifically for you and the communities you cherish and trust, and that’s what we’ve built within Fizz.

Enter Fizz Marketplace

Fizz Marketplace is built on a simple idea: what if you could buy and sell within your own trusted community? No strangers, no scams – just your fellow students.

Here's why Fizz users love it:

Trust: Because each Fizz community is private and only available to verified students, it creates a trusted community of users who are not only geographically co-located but also share a common experience of being at the same school. You're not dealing with random internet strangers; you're buying from people you see everyday on campus. 

  2. Convenience: Students may only need to travel as far as the next dorm building to pick up the items they buy, making them more likely to complete purchases. For example, sellers on average only have to chat with two people before making a deal versus the drawn-out process in existing marketplaces.

  3. Relevance: Fizz is already the go-to social platform for college life. Now, Marketplace is like having a built-in filter that only shows things what college students want and need, like dorm furniture, clothes, bikes, textbooks, and more.

We rolled out Fizz Marketplace just a few months ago, and the response has been incredible. We've seen over 50,000 listings and 150,000 direct messages, and we’re confident that growth will continue.

Fizz Marketplace is more than just a feature—it's the natural evolution of our platform. Students love Fizz not only for its sense of connection but also for the value it brings to daily life.
